MULTIPASS
A Doubling-Scale, Multi-Node Backyard Observatory Architecture
Build an always-on “mini observation lab” that scales by doubling: 1 → 2 → 4 → 8+ optical nodes.
Fuse multiple sensing modalities (optical, spectral, radio, particle, weather) into a single, time-synchronized Event Packet.
Use computational imaging (stacking, lucky imaging, luminance layering) to turn modest hardware into a high-signal system.
Add an LLM as a safe control and analysis layer: mission control, workflow automation, and explainable reporting.
MULTIPASS is a modular observatory concept that treats “a telescope” as a networked system rather than a single instrument. The key design move is to scale capability by doubling independent nodes (optical units, sensors, and processing throughput), while keeping the data model and workflow stable.
